Ariba reports operating loss, revenues down by half

Published on .

Sunnyvale, Calif.--Once high-flying b-to-b exchange software developer Ariba Inc. continued its downward slide, reporting a fiscal fourth-quarter net loss of $27.7 million, compared with a $1.1 million net loss in the year-earlier period. The company's revenues were $62.6 million, down from $134.8 million in the year-earlier period. "We reported a solid quarter despite the soft economic environment and the unexpected tragic events of September," said Bob Calderoni, president-CEO, in a statement. "Because we quickly responded to the early signs of the changing economic climate and took the necessary steps, our focus is entirely on customers and our strategy for growth." Ariba has laid off 30% of its employees in the past year.
