Ariba taps Computer Associates vet as CEO of Australian unit

Published on .

Mountain View, Calif.--Ariba Inc. has hired Allan Smith as CEO of Ariba Australia. He will oversee all the company's b-to-b initiatives in Australia. Smith comes to Ariba after 14 years at Computer Associates International Inc., most recently as senior VP of sales, support and customer relationship management-California. Before joining Computer Associates, he spent 14 years at Sydney-based Commonwealth Bank of Australia. His hire underscores Ariba's ongoing expansion in Australia. Ariba Australia employs 27 people, up 125% from last year. Australia has long been a favorite Asia-Pacific base among U.S. investment banks for its language, modern capital markets infrastructure and its proximity to China, Japan, Hong Kong, India, Thailand and Indonesia. Lately, U.S. technology companies have been following their lead.
