B-to-b ad pages and ad spending show gains in October

New York--In somewhat of a surprise for a market that expected a slowdown in the fourth quarter, the Business Information Network report showed significant growth in October, with ad pages up 5.3% and ad spending up 19.4%, compared with October 1999. In terms of ad spending, the telecommunications industry posted the biggest gain in October, up 59.2% compared with October 1999. Spending also increased sharply in the finance, business and advertising category, up 48.9%. Year-to-date, ad pages were up 6.2% and ad spending up 13.8%.
