B-to-b advertising helps drive NHL revenue growth

Published on .

New York—The National Hockey League said it expects its total revenue to grow to a record $2.9 billion this season, a 4% to 5% increase over last season. The NHL said its growth has been driven in part by double-digit increases in advertising and sponsorship revenue.

The league said advertising on NHL.com and the NHL Network has increased 55%. It also said it has added or renewed deals with a number of advertisers, which include such b-to-b brands as Cisco, Discover Card and Verizon.

“The strong numbers are a testament to a great product on the ice, a growing fan base that loves our game and a strategy that provided a path for corporate America to reach that fan base,” NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said in a statement.
