Shawnee Mission, Kan.--The b-to-b commodities spot trading marketplace has yet another entrant. Internet Commodity Exchange Corp. has launched the ICE Private Network, an e-marketplace intended to allow commercial grain sellers to buy and sell online. The exchange, launched at the NGFA Country Elevator Convention in Kansas City, Mo., faces heated competition from a host of competing b-to-b grain exchanges. Among them is Pradium Inc., an industry-backed marketplace that is currently in beta. It remains to be seen whether the $125 billion global grain market, while no doubt large, can support multiple exchanges. One advantage ICE Private Network has over competitors is that its hosted transactions can be consummated financially through XML-based software.
