Bandwidth exchange debuts

San Francisco--RateXchange Corp. on Thursday opened its RateXchange Trading System to handle exchanges of bandwidth. The company said it has reached agreements with eight major carriers in North America, Asia and Europe to trade their excess bandwidth. It estimated the inventory of the unnamed providers at more than $250 million in gross bandwidth value. The exchange will compete with an earlier hub set up by Enron Corp.
