Barclays Global Investors launches first institutional investor Net program

Published on .

San Francisco--Barclays Global Investors, the world's largest institutional asset manager, with more than $750 billion in assets under management, has launched its first institutional investor-aimed Internet program. Called ClientConnect 2000, the program allows Barclays' institutional customers, which include pension leviathans such as General Motors Corp., to access their accounts and conduct research online. Though Barclays' sheer size makes it an instant player in the institutional Internet arena, it is late to the game, following such companies as State Street Global Investors, Boston, and Merrill Lynch & Co., New York.
