Big Blue in Spanish telecom partnership

New York -- IBM Corp. formed a multibillion-dollar partnership with Spain's Telefonica SA to sell services to Spanish-speaking telecommunications customers. The companies will offer data transmission, video and other enhanced services in Spain and Latin America. IBM will help develop the services and take over the operation of Telefonica's internal computer system for 10 years. Armonk, N.Y.-based IBM has been courting customers for its services business and promoting electronic commerce and other Internet-based products. (From Crain's New York Business.)
