May BIN report: Ad revenue down nearly 17%

New York--Total magazine ad revenue was down 16.9% to $640.2 million in May from the same period last year, according to the Business Information Network, a joint venture of American Business Media and CMR.

Ad pages for the period were down 16.5% from May 2001, the report found.

Ad revenue for the telecommunications industry was down 45.9%. Horticulture and farming publications reported a 29.6% drop in revenue for the period, followed by computers, which showed a 27.9% decline.

The only industry to report an increase in ad revenue was drugs and toiletries, whose ad revenue grew 1.7% for the month.
