To build blog subscribers, get narrow-minded

Jay Baer has an interesting take on blogs that have lots of visitors versus blogs with lots of subscribers. As Baer says on the Convince & Convert blog, the narrower your blog content focus the more likely you are to drive sharing and subscription behaviors because it's more likely readers feel you are talking directly about their situations and the content is more relevant. The trade-off is in lower traffic. A broader focus creates more traffic because you have more types of Google bait in the water, and you are simply appealing to a wider variety of readers. Which is best?
