Business publications eked out small advertising gain in ’06

New York—Ad revenue for business publications grew 0.61% in 2006, while ad pages were up 0.68%, according to a report released Thursday by American Business Media’s Business Information Network.

Ad revenue and pages were fairly stable for the year despite drops of 2.17% and 2.66%, respectively, in December, compared with the same month in 2005.

“As predicted, 2006 held steady for print ad pages and revenue,” said Gordon Hughes II, president-CEO of ABM, in a news release.

Some of the stronger ad categories in 2006 included architecture, design, lighting (up 9.91%); building, engineering, construction (up 8.09%) and automotive (up 7.82%). Weaker ad categories included computing, software, telecomm (down 6.67%) and agriculture (down 5.12%).
