Most businesses to maintain or increase marketing budgets

By Published on .

Redwood City, Calif.—Marketers' optimism about the economy has improved dramatically, according to a new survey, with 85% planning either to maintain or increase their marketing budgets for the remainder of the year.

According to the “June 2009 Marketing Trends Survey,” conducted by e-mail company StrongMail Systems, 42% of respondents plan to increase their marketing budgets for the rest of the year, with an additional 43% saying they would maintain budgets at current levels.

Sales expectations also have improved markedly. Only 15% said they expect a decrease in sales in the second half of the year, compared with 37% who responded similarly in StrongMail's previous survey last December.

StrongMail's online survey polled 979 business executives in various industries in May
