BuzzFeed acquires Kingfish Labs for Facebook targeting

New York—Viral media and news aggregator BuzzFeed Inc. has acquired Kingfish Labs, a company that analyzes language use on Facebook to determine user interests. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Kingfish Labs technology was used to create a Facebook dating app, with natural language processing to analyze the interests of users of the social media site. BuzzFeed said it will use Kingfish technology to optimize the purchase and placement of Facebook's Sponsored Stories advertisements in users' news feeds.
