New York -- The Advertising Council announced Wednesday that Peggy Conlon, 48, has been named president-CEO of the organization, effective July 1. The Ad Council is a private, nonprofit organization, whose public service campaigns have included "Friends Don't Let Friends Drive Drunk" and "A Mind is a Terrible Thing to Waste." In taking the Ad Council post, Ms. Conlon leaves Cahners Business Information, where she served as VP-group publisher of the broadcasting and cable group. She is the first president of the Ad Council with a media background. In 1998, Ad Council campaigns received more than $1 billion in donated media time and space.
