Calico, Ariba strengthen automation offerings

Published on .

San Jose, Calif.--Calico Commerce said Friday that it will buy ConnectInc.com for $90 million in stock, while Ariba signed an alliance with Tibco Software. Both Calico and Ariba are attempting to provide electronic-commerce integration with existing financial systems used to run large businesses. Calico, San Jose, builds custom sales applications for use by customers on the Internet and by internal sales forces. Through the purchase of ConnectInc.com, Mountain View, Calif., Calico gains access to Java-based technology for connecting buyer and supplier transactional systems and building vertical-industry digital markets on the Internet. Ariba, also Mountain View, Calif., will use technology from Tibco, Palo Alto, Calif., to link its Internet procurement applications to the SAP, Oracle and PeopleSoft financial systems used by clients.
