CEIR: Trade show industry gains in 2011

Dallas—A key trade show industry barometer posted a 2.7% gain last year after three consecutive years of decline. The CEIR index, which is compiled by the Center for Exhibition Industry Research, tabulates the performance of the trade show industry in four areas, all of which increased last year compared with 2010. Net square feet increased 2.7%, the number of exhibitors expanded by 2.3%, the number of attendees jumped 3.4% and revenue grew 2.3%. The machinery and finished business outputs category grew 11.2%, posting the strongest growth among industry sectors tracked by the CEIR Index. The building, construction, home and repair category posted the steepest decline: 5.3%.
