Chemdex, Big Blue expand portal plans

Published on .

Palo Alto, Calif.--Pharmaceuticals and health care supply-chain portals are in the works for IBM and Chemdex, which announced an alliance to deploy buying applications to those industries. The deal is a coup for Palo Alto, Calif.-based Chemdex, which has focused on providing services to life sciences industries. Chemdex brings a major technology partner to the fold as it attempts to expand beyond chemists and other scientists into mainstream health care. IBM, Armonk, N.Y., will bring professional services, technology and implementation expertise to the mixture. Chemdex previously acquired a start-up pharmaceutical industry sales portal to gain a foothold in the industry.
