Plano, Texas and Wayne, Pa.--Two e-marketplaces serving the mining and chemical industries agreed to link so their members can buy and sell directly from each other over the Net, the marketplaces said Tuesday.

Mining hub Quadrem and chemical marketplace Elemica expect the link to go live in the second quarter. The hub-to-hub connection will let mining companies place orders through Quadrem that are intended for Elemica members.

Mining companies use chemicals to process raw materials from the ground into metals or to leach gold from ore, for example.

Quadrem’s shareholders include Alcoa and De Beers Consolidated Mines. Elemica was built by a consortium including Dow Chemical, DuPont and BASF, among others.
