Cirius Technologies acquired by Yahoo Japan

Tokyo—Location-based mobile ad company Cirius Technologies, headquartered here and with its U.S. base in Sunnyvale, Calif., has been acquired by Yahoo Japan, that country ‘s largest Internet company, for an undisclosed sum.

Cirius operates AdLocal, a service that targets mobile phone users with location-based ads, using such factors as global positioning system (GPS) and cell phone identification. When the acquisition is completed, the U.S. office, which opened last fall, will close.
