Cisco acquires Sourcefire for $2.7 billion

San Jose, Calif.—Cisco Systems has acquired network security software company Sourcefire Inc. for about $2.7 billion. Sourcefire, based in Columbia, Md., specializes in network firewalls and other threat-detection software. The company has annual sales of about $135 million, and more than 2,500 customers in 180 countries. “Sourcefire aligns well with Cisco’s future vision for security and supports the key pillars of our security strategy,” said Hilton Romanski, VP-corporate development at Cisco, in a statement.
