Cisco to spend $10 billion on acquisitions

Geneva--John Chambers, president of San Jose, Calif.-based Cisco Systems, told attendees at the Telecom 99 trade fair in Geneva that Cisco would increase its acquisition pace and buy more than 20 companies in the coming year for up to $10 billion in cash and stock. Mr. Chambers' comments come after Cisco has acquired about 40 companies in the past six years, including Burlington, Mass.-based WebLine Communications.
