CMGI to buy AdForce

Andover, Mass.--Internet investment company CMGI has agreed to acquire AdForce, Cupertino, Calif., in a stock deal valued at about $500 million. After the deal is completed, AdForce, an Internet advertising service that places ads and tracks performance for Web sites, rep firms and advertisers, will be able to expand its customer base by providing service to many CMGI-affiliated companies. Many media outlets have pointed out that one of those CMGI-affiliated companies is the Alta Vista Web portal, which is currently served by AdForce competitor, DoubleClick.
