Brad Garlinghouse, a partner at CMGI @Ventures, Menlo Park, Calif., has joined free consumer calling service Dialpad.com Inc., Santa Clara, Calif. Late in 1999, CMGI raised $1 billion in venture capital to invest in b-to-b. Garlinghouse was the point person for investment of that fund. He will continue as a strategic advisor and director of the companies that CMGI @Venture invested in during his tenure at the fund. Garlinghouse will lead Dialpad.com's effort to gain international reach by linking with established telecommunications companies and advertising firms. Dialpad.com allows people to make long-distance calls with a Web browser and computer microphone. It plans to make money through targeted marketing services.
