London--As a prelude to the promised initial public offering of its Internet business, Miller Freeman's CMP Media announced it has named Bruce Armstrong as president-CEO of its new electronic-commerce venture. CMP Media's business-to-business portal provides information and services to builders, sellers and users of high-technology products. Mr. Armstrong will be charged with adding services and commerce opportunities to the CMP sites. "The hiring of Bruce signals our staunch commitment to develop new business opportunities for our customers on the Internet and to move forward with our plans for an IPO of our Internet business early next year," said Gary Marshall, CMP's president-CEO. Mr. Armstrong comes to CMP from Broadbase, a provider of e-business analytic applications, where he was senior VP-sales and marketing.
