CNET takes ‘poison pill’ to thwart takeover attempt

San Francisco—Technology publisher CNET Networks has adopted a so-called poison pill to thwart a takeover attempt by an investment group led by New York-based Jana Partners. In a filing last week with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, CNET stipulated that if 15% of the company is acquired it would trigger a big sale of CNET stock, thereby diluting the acquirer’s stake in the company.
