CNN to shut down CNNfn

Published on .

New York—Time Warner’s CNN plans to shut down CNNfn, its struggling cable news network, by mid-December.

CNNfn, which started in 1995, turned a profit last year but has faced weakened public interest in financial news and a stronger competitor in CNBC.

About 60 jobs will be cut at the network, although CNN told media outlets that 100 other jobs will be added, mainly at CNN Headline News, whose programming will be revamped to include prime-time shows rather than a succession of 30-minute newscasts.
