Chicago--Marketing communications firm Colle+McVoy Friday acquired Chicago-based Mobium Creative Group from R.R. Donnelley & Sons.

Financial terms of the deal, which took place in the wake of Donnelley’s acquisition of Moore Wallace, were not disclosed.

Minneapolis-based Colle+McVoy, whose clients include Medtronic and 3M Corp., is owned by Toronto-based MDC Partners. It also has offices in New York and Los Angeles.

Mobium, a much-awarded agency with a client list that includes NEC-Mitsubishi, was named the Business Marketing Association’s agency of the year in 2003. It will retain its name and function as a unit of Colle+McVoy.

“We are delighted,” said Guy Gangi, a partner at Mobium. “This was our pick. These are the guys we wanted (to buy us).”

Chuck Kushell, Colle+McVoy’s chairman-CEO, said in a statement, “It has long been our plan to have an agency presence in Chicago, and what better fit than best-in-class Mobium?”

Prior to the acquisition, Mobium trimmed as many as eight positions, several sources said. The agency said most of the eliminated positions were administrative.
