Commerce One adds health care partner

Published on .

Walnut Creek, Calif.--Commerce One, Walnut Creek, Calif., said Wednesday it has entered a strategic partnership with empactHealth.com, giving the electronic-commerce buying service a foothold in the health care industry. The deal calls for Commerce One to provide its catalog and transaction services to empactHealth, Nashville, Tenn., in exchange for set-up and transaction costs. empactHealth has a $40 million funding commitment from Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corp., which buys $3 billion worth of supplies annually and has agreed to be the first customer of the health care buying service, due in the first quarter of 2000. The deal follows Commerce One's deal with General Motors Corp. to set up automotive industry buying operations in October.
