Commerce One, Ariba report revenue declines

Pleasanton and Sunnyvale, Calif.--Pointing to the continuing struggles of online marketplaces, e-procurement companies Commerce One Operations Inc. and Ariba Inc. reported revenue declines for the third quarter.

Commerce One reported revenue of $26.4 million, compared with $81.1 million a year earlier. The company's net loss was $46.9 million, or $1.61 per share, compared with $119 million, or $4.51 per share, a year earlier.

Ariba's third-quarter revenue fell to $58.2 million from $62.6 million a year earlier. The company posted a net loss of $142.5 million, or 54 cents per share, compared with a net loss of $224.3 million, or 89 cents per share, a year earlier.
