Commerce One launches Japanese subsidiary

Published on .

Pleasanton, Calif.--Commerce One Inc. has launched a Japanese subsidiary, Commerce One Kabushiki-Kaisha. "Japan is the second-largest IT market in the world and the business-to-business electronic commerce opportunities are tremendous," Arimichi Hatanaka, president of the Tokyo-based subsidiary, said in a statement. Commerce One joins a slew of U.S. b-to-b technology companies that have recently launched Japanese subsidiaries, including VerticalNet Inc., webMethods Inc. and FreeMarkets Inc. Commerce One's Japanese launch comes several weeks after it won a major contract to power e-hubs in South Korea. It also has b-to-b clients in Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, the Philippines and Australia.
