Pleasanton, Calif. - Commerce One Inc. kept pace with rival Ariba Inc. Thursday, reporting a smaller than expected loss and strong revenue growth. B-to-b watchers have been closely following the financial strength of the top b-to-b enablers to see if the market is indeed as large as predicted. Commerce One posted a loss for the quarter of $14.7 million, with revenues rising from $112.7 million, compared with $10.4 million a year earlier. The company also moved ahead its target date for profitability to the second quarter of next year. Wednesday, Ariba posted revenues of $134.9 million and a net loss of $1.1 million. Commerce One has a slightly different business model from Ariba, counting on future transaction fees while Ariba is focused more on license fees.
