Published on .

Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.—Small and midsize businesses are optimistic about their prospects for growth over the next 12 months and plan to invest in technology, according to a study by the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA).

The study was based on an online survey of 724 businesses with fewer than 1,000 employees. It found that 45% expect their businesses to grow by more than 10% over the next 12 months, while 21% expect growth of more than 20%.

Small and midsize businesses will also increase their investment in technology, the survey found. Asked to identify which technologies they plan to invest in over the next 12 months, 29% said secured data backup, storage and disaster recovery; 24% said IP telephony; 19% said server virtualization and consolidation; 18% said Wi-Fi; and 13% said storage area networks.
