Islandia, NY - Facing reduced demand for technology products, Computer Associates International Inc., the world's fourth largest software maker, on Thursday said it would cut 900 jobs, or about 5% of its work force. The cuts will leave it with about 17,000 employees worldwide. The company said the layoffs would result in a charge of up to $20 million in its fiscal third quarter ending Dec. 31. The company said the cuts will be primarily in North America and will affect all areas of the company. In early morning trading on the New York Stock Exchange shares of Computer Associates were trading at $28.99, down more than a dollar from Thursday's close of $29.70.
