Manhasset, N.Y. - Nearly 40% of computer resellers are selling their products and services online, according to CMP Media's Channel Information Services. Of the more than 124,000 North American IT product and service providers in CIS's database, 39% sell online and 53% are marketing over the Web. With the Gallup Organization, CIS will conduct a study later this year to be called ``.com Reselling: A New Channel for IT Product Sales,'' which will analyze the rapidly emerging Internet IT channel and its impact on manufacturers and traditional resellers. ``In the wake of Compaq Computer Corp.'s decision to suspend sales of its Presario line of PCs through Internet resellers, IT product manufacturers and distributors are trying to determine the best strategy for dealing with the `.com resellers,''' said T.C. Doyle, senior industry analyst at CIS.
