ComScore: Video viewership hits new heights

Reston, Va.—ComScore has reported that 188.0 million U.S. Internet users—87.3% of the country's online population—viewed 37.7 billion online videos in August, an all time high. Video ads accounted for 20.1% of videos viewed. According to comScore's Video Metrix report, Google Inc. sites, with YouTube predominating, was the top video content portal with 150.2 million unique views, followed by Yahoo at 55.0 million and Microsoft sites with 53.7 million. Also, 9.5 billion video ads were viewed in the U.S. in August, reaching 53.7% of the U.S. population. Google sites again led with more than 1.7 billion ads for the month, followed by BrightRoll Video Network, Adap.tv and Hulu, each of which also served more than 1 billion ad views.
