ComScore: YouTube leads in video views; Hulu tops video ads

Reston, Va.—Internet users who view online video overwhelmingly go to Google sites, primarily YouTube.com, while ad-supported video site Hulu generates the highest number of video ad impressions, according to a new study from comScore.

ComScore reported that in July, 178.1 million Internet users in the U.S. watched online video, with Google websites snaring 143.2 million unique viewers. Yahoo websites attracted 55.1 million viewers, while Facebook finished third with 46.6 million viewers.

Hulu's ad-supported format allowed it to claim the leadership spot in video ad viewership. For July, Hulu generated 783.3 million ad impressions out of a total Internet video ad viewership of 3.6 billion. ComScore estimated that video ads reached 44.5% of the total U.S. population an average of 27 times during the month.
