Condé Nast announces another reorganization; Berner resigns

Published on .

New York—In a management shakeup, Condé Nast Publications said Wednesday that Mary Berner has resigned as group president of the publisher’s Fairchild unit. As part of the revamp, the unit will be renamed the Fashion & Retail Trade Groups.

Mitchell Fox, a group president of Condé Nast Publications, will head up the Fashion & Retail Trade Groups, which will include trade titles Women’s Wear Daily, DNR, Footwear News, Menswear International, Supermarket News, In Furniture, Home Furnishings News and ancillary businesses, as well as W magazine and the Condé Nast Bridal Group. Fox retains his position overseeing Gold Digest Publications.

Berner, a publishing veteran who in 2004 was named “Publishing Executive of the Year” by Advertising Age, a BtoB sibling publication, will be leaving the company at the end of the month. Her departure comes about three months after Condé Nast announced a major reorganization into seven divisions.

A person familiar with the situation, who requested anonymity, said Berner is eager to run her own company. “She built and ran Fairchild for six years, but with the reorganization she’s just a group publisher and she’s gone way beyond that.”
