'Crain’s New York Business' names new publisher and new publishing director

New York— Crain Communications Inc. on Tuesday named longtime Crain’s New York Business publisher Alair Townsend to publishing director and Jill Kaplan to publisher of the weekly publication. The changes take effect in mid-September.

Kaplan will join CNYB from The Wall Street Journal, where she is general manager of The Weekend Edition, Weekend Journal, Personal Journal and The Journal Report. When she joins Crain’s, she will be responsible for the day-to-day operation at the magazine.

Townsend joined CNYB  in 1989 as publisher and was named a VP of Crain in 1993. Before joining Crain, she served as New York City’s Deputy Mayor for Finance and Economic Development from February 1985 to January 1989. Crain Communications also publishes BtoB and Media Business.
