B-to-b media veterans Paul Mackler and Ken Fisher have joined forces with private equity firm Alta Communications to acquire HMP Communications from BG Media Investors. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

HMP, which was formed in 1985, distributes medical information, research and educational products and services. Its journals include The Annals of Long-Term Care, Cath Lab Digest, Clinical Geriatrics, EP Lab Digest, Podiatry Today and Skin & Aging.

"Health care is a $1.7 trillion industry, and HMP covers a lot of disciplines that are each multibillion industries in and of themselves," said Mackler, who is now president-CEO of HMP. He added that HMP's revenue is split 50/50 between print and nonprint products.

"It's nicely diversified," Mackler said. "We intend to grow both organically and through additional acquisition."

Mackler was most recently CEO of Cygnus Business Media. Fisher, who is CFO of HMP, was formerly CFO of Cygnus Business Media.
