Kohn most recently served as a strategic consultant for the Associated Press. Previously, he worked with AOL, Ogilvy & Mather, USAToday and Viacom New Media.
"It should not surprise anyone that we reached beyond the b-to-b world for this talent because at the end of the day, our magazines and websites compete for the attention of our consumer against all media,” Cygnus CEO John French said in a statement.
Cygnus also announced Monday that designer J-C Suares will serve as a consultant to the company. He will hold the title of creative director and report to French.
Suares has helped design or redesign a number of publications, including Broadcasting & Cable, The New York Times Book Review, Shape and Variety. He has also drawn cover illustrations for The Atlantic, Fortune and The New Yorker.
