Cyveillance reports phishing, identity theft among top security risks for 2006

By Published on .

Cyveillance, an online risk monitoring and management solutions provider, announced Thursday the top five online security risks in 2006. Among them is the fraud and identity theft risk through phishing schemes.

Cyveillance said until e-mail authentication and other anti-phishing solutions are widely adopted by the online community, phishing will continue to be a popular identity theft tactic. It cited a research report from IDC that estimates global financial services companies lost about $400 million last year due to phishing.

The monitoring company said in order to combat security risks, companies must create and enforce corporate policies, educate customers, monitor the Internet vigilantly and find a complete approach to stay atop emerging threats.
