Deal pace accelerates in media and information industry

New York—The M&A market for the media and information industry is alive and kicking. The market tallied $52 billion in transactions across 11 media and information sectors in the first three quarters of this year, a 130% increase over the same period last year, according to a report released Friday by Jordan Edmiston Group, a media industry investment banker.

The largest gainers in terms of deal value were consumer magazines (up 590%); exhibitions and conferences (up 218%); database information services (up 164%); newspaper publishing (up 164%); directory and reference publishing (up 158%); and online media (up 147%).

The largest deal in the third quarter was VNU’s $7 billion purchase of IMS Health in the database information services sector.
