Dell closes once-promising e-hub

Round Rock, Texas--Launched with fanfare in October, Dell Computer Corp.'s b-to-b purchasing hub has silently closed after less than five months. The company said that a lack of readiness on the part of business buyers to use the marketplace prompted the move. Only 3M Co., Motorola Inc. and Pitney Bowes Inc. had signed up to sell products on the Dell site. Dell said it would concentrate on selling computers and software to businesses looking to hook into other exchanges.
