Dell to offer Linux on desktop PCs

Garden City, N.Y.--Dell Computer Corp. will include the Linux operating system, which goes head-to-head with Microsoft Corp.'s Windows systems, as an option on its desktop personal computers, according to a report in the Aug. 9 issue of Inter@ctive Week. The operating system will be a checkoff option alongside Windows 95, 98, and NT. Dell's Dimension desktops will be available with Linux by October, and its Inspiron notebook computers will offer the system by the end of the year. Dell has previously offered Linux as an option on servers and workstations.
