New York--Deloitte & Touche L.L.P. and PeopleSoft, Pleasanton, Calif., have been sued by W.L. Gore & Associates over an allegedly bungled attempt to install software to improve W.L. Gore's payroll and personnel departments. W.L. Gore, a Newark, Del.-based maker of outdoor wear, alleges in its suit that Deloitte and PeopleSoft gulled it into buying human resources software programs with empty promises that the programs could be easily installed and operated, according to Bloomberg News. The suit said W.L. Gore paid more than $2.5 million for the software implementation, more than twice the estimate, and still did not receive all the services that Deloitte had contracted to provide. The suit comes as consulting firms such as Deloitte and software manufacturers such as PeopleSoft are increasingly signing pacts to jointly develop, market and install business software systems.
