Santa Monica, Calif.—Digital media company Demand Media announced it has acquired Name.com, a domain name registrar. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Based in Denver, Name.com has 1.5 million registered domains. Demand Media's eNom subsidiary has 13.5 million names registered.
“Name.com will provide a direct channel for us to reach consumers and small businesses as they develop and manage their online identities,” said Richard Rosenblatt, chairman-CEO of Demand Media, in a statement. “This becomes even more valuable as over 1,000 new domain extensions are expected to become available for registration in the years ahead.”
Demand Media will retain Name.com's Denver-based team and the business will report to Demand's Taryn Naidu, exec VP-registrar services.
