Digital media M&A activity on the upswing

New York—Mergers and acquisitions transactions in the digital media space increased to 564 in the first half of the year, a 14% jump compared with the year-earlier period, according to a report released Friday by Peachtree Media Advisors, an investment bank. In the same time frame, the value of the transactions increased by 117% to $9.0 billion.

Peachtree Media said that growth in the mobile and cloud computing helped boost the transaction flow. The number of mobile deals climbed to 84 in the first half of the year, an increase of 115%; the value of those deals jumped to $543 million, a boost of 180%.

The number of b-to-b deals increased from three to 17. The lead generation and customer acquisition category was the only sector to post a decline in the number of deals, which fell from eight in the first half of 2009 to seven in the first half of this year.
