Naperville, Ill.—Direct mail services company Returned Mail Solutions has released a tool that processes direct mail lists to help identify undeliverable addresses prior to mailing.

Called the Scorecard, the tool compares addresses with 50 different informational categories. The deliverability index is aimed at addressing the undeliverable-as-addressed (UAA) problem for direct marketers using the U.S. Postal Service.

The company said the UAA issue affects about 15% of all direct mail, costing direct marketers $6 billion annually.
