New York--The Direct Marketing Association has hired James Conway, a Fortune 500 corporate lobbying vet, as its VP-government relations. Conway will report to Senior VP-Government Affairs Jerry Cerasale, and will be responsible for DMA activities with Congress and federal regulatory agencies. Conway's hiring underscores the emphasis the DMA is placing on hiring experienced lobbyists, amid a flurry of privacy and postal service legislation. Prior to joining the DMA, Conway was manager-congressional relations at Siemens Corp., the U.S. arm of Munich-based Siemens AG. Before that he was a labor relations attorney with Houston-based Gulf Oil L.P.
