Donnelley to acquire Banta for $1.3 billion

By Published on .

Chicago—R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co. said Tuesday it has agreed to acquire Banta Corp. for $1.3 billion in a cash deal that brings together two major midwestern printers.

Donnelley said the acquisition of Manasha, Wis.-based Banta would enhance its ability to provide magazine, catalog and book printing services, as well as direct marketing. It will also help Donnelley expand geographically. Banta currently operates in Europe and Asia, in addition to the U.S.

“Banta is an exceptional fit with R.R. Donnelley,” said Mark A. Angelson, CEO of R.R. Donnelley, in a statement. “This combination will create immediate cross-selling opportunities with our blue-chip customers as well as offer substantial synergies in our procurement, manufacturing and services operations.”

The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of next year.
